Porcelain jug with a machine embroidered effect crane taking flight over swaying bamboo. Cranes are symbolic of happiness and longevity whilst bamboo represents strength and flexibility. I drew them with the sewing machine and cast the material in plaster, from which I press the porcelain and hand build the jug. The interior and handle are glazed with a shiny transparent. glaze and the stitching is over-painted with cobalt when it is biscuit fired. It is then fired again and the stitching becomes a classic rich cobalt blue.
The jug is 12.5cm tall with a base of 10.5cm diameter and is dishwasher safe.
